PA Mom Launches Fundraiser After Arson-Suicide Kills Husband, Injures Family

A Lancaster Township woman has started a GoFundMe after her husband died in an arson-suicide that left two of their sons and a family guest critically injured.

Sophan Duong, the wife of Simon Hen, created the fundraiser to support her family after the Sunday, Jan. 19 fire that destroyed their home on Wilderness Road.

The fire, sparked during a domestic dispute, began when Hen, 46, poured gasoline throughout the upstairs of the house and set it ablaze, police said. He died at the scene from smoke inhalation and thermal burns, according to Lancaster County Coroner Eric Bieber.

Hen’s two adult sons, ages 23 and 21, and a 19-year-old guest suffered critical burns but managed to escape. Duong and her 17-year-old daughter fled the blaze with minor injuries.

“Our two sons… are in critical condition, as well as my son’s girlfriend,” Duong wrote on the fundraiser page.

The fire caused an estimated $350,000 in damages, destroying the family’s home and belongings.

The GoFundMe has raised over $6,000 toward its $50,000 goal as of Monday, Jan. 20. The funds will help cover medical expenses, temporary housing, and other recovery costs.

“We don’t ask for much, but we appreciate any donations made towards us, please and thank you in advance,” Duong wrote.
